People & Land
The farm is an inheritance from Juan’s father, who first arrived in 1965. They purchased the land and began cultivating beans and coffee around 1970. At that time, the Indigenous communities in the area did not allow coffee cultivation, and it was highly frowned upon. As a result, the first coffee crops had to be planted discreetly, hidden among the weeds.
Later, the local federation began promoting coffee production, making it more accepted and widespread in the region. In 2005, under the cooperative’s initiative, they submitted a lot to a local contest and won. The substantial settlement they received provided the first step toward improving the farm’s coffee varieties and production processes.
Today, the farm produces 90% of its coffee, utilizing various processing methods—all carried out on-site.
